He believed in the Baptist faith and was a member of the Salem Baptist Church. He was a coal truck driver and in his spare time he enjoyed working on cars in his garage.

She was active in Youth Alive and HOSA, served as the Cardinal Mascot and was voted Best School Spirit. She served as a staff member of Laurel Lake Baptist Camp for many summers.
