WILLIAMSBURG, KY – More than 125 students from 12 local middle and high schools recently participated in the annual Mathematics Contest hosted by University of the Cumberlands (UC).
The contest, which is sponsored by the Department of Mathematics and Physics at Cumberlands, aims to prepare students for future careers in mathematics, physics and engineering fields. It is also an opportunity for students to spend time on Cumberlands’ campus.
“Our department enjoys spending time with the volunteers and giving high school and middle school students the opportunity to showcase their math skills, all the while the students get to see our beautiful campus,” said Sarah Hacker, an assistant professor in the Department.
During the contest, students participated in a number of activities and challenges that tested their mathematical knowledge. As the day concluded, students who scored the highest among the competitors took home trophies, plaques and certificates.
