KSP announces top Trooper, Detective, CVE Officer and other awards
LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 2, 2019) –Gov. Matt Bevin joined Justice Secretary John Tilley and Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rick Sanders in recognizing 58 KSP troopers and officers for acts of bravery, life-saving, professionalism and dedication to duty at a ceremony held in Lexington on May 30.
Kentucky State Police Award winners included Det. Brian Lewis, Ofr. Roger Swiger, Tpr. Robert Purdy, Tpr. Daniel Priddy, Ofr. Logan Lynch and Det. Matt Wise.
A list of all award winners and photographs will be posted on the KSP website June 3, 2019.
Governor Bevin spoke directly to the award recipients at the ceremony.
“We are deeply grateful to each of the brave men and women who put on a Kentucky State Police uniform in service to our Commonwealth,” said Gov. Bevin. “Today, it is our distinct honor to recognize some of the KSP troopers and officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in their communities. The selfless dedication they have shown is truly inspiring, and we are excited to celebrate their exceptional achievements.”
KSP Commissioner Rick Sanders echoed the praise and said he is never surprised by the way the agency “answers the call.”
“Often times, the only difference between law and order in the rural areas of Kentucky is the ‘Thin Gray Line’,” he said. “I thank every member of the Kentucky State Police for their service and I thank their family members for allowing them to serve on a daily basis.”
Trooper Daniel Priddy was named 2018 Trooper of the Year. A 12-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police, he is assigned to KSP Post 3 in Bowling Green.
Detective Matt Wise was named 2018 Detective of the Year. A 13-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police, he is assigned to the Critical Incident Response Team.
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Logan Lynch was named the 2018 Jason Cammack Officer of the Year for the KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Troop. A 5-year CVE veteran, Lynch is assigned to CVE Central Region.
Trooper First Class Robert Purdy was named 2018 Public Affairs Officer of the Year. A 13-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police, he is assigned to KSP Post 7 in Richmond.
Detective Brian Lewis was named 2018 Arson Investigator of the Year. A 10-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police, he is assigned to KSP Post 11 in London.
Officer Roger Swiger was named 2018 Facilities Security Officer of the Year. A 4-year veteran of the agency, he is assigned to the Frankfort Capitol Building.
Five troopers were awarded the KSP Citation for Bravery, an honor bestowed on officers of the agency who perform acts of bravery, without regard for personal risk despite clear and obvious peril, and clearly above and beyond the call or risk of ordinary duty.
Eleven troopers received the Lifesaving Medal, awarded to officers who perform life-saving acts under extraordinary circumstances.
One trooper received the Guthrie Crowe Award, which is named for the first commissioner of the Kentucky State Police and bestowed upon officers of the agency who sustain a severe wound or injury while in the performance of duty.
Twenty troopers were named Detective of the Year at the post, branch or division level.
Sixteen troopers were named Trooper of the Year at the post, branch or division level.
Three Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers were named Officer of the Year at the regional level.
