Laurel County, Ky. (Sept. 21, 2019) - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Sgt. John Inman along with Deputy Shannon Jones arrested two individuals off Highway 229 South of London on Thursday night September 19, 2019 at approximately 10:26 PM.
The arrests occurred after deputies were dispatched to a theft in progress and learned upon arrival that two individuals had attempted to steal Industrial Hemp from a field and the owner had blocked the vehicle from leaving.
The two arrested individuals were identified as:
Driver – Edna Tancy Wigner age 49 of Hazel Fork Road, Gray, KY charged with:
- Theft by unlawful taking under $500
- Possession of Industrial Hemp
Passenger – Johnny Ray Bowling age 34 of Hazel Fork Road, Gray, KY charged with:
- Theft by unlawful taking under $500
- Possession of Industrial Hemp
- A bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court
These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Recently Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Taylor McDaniel along with Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards, Detective Bryon Lawson, and Detective James Sizemore arrested John Schell age 50 of Pleasure View Road, London after this subject was found in possession of numerous Industrial Hemp plants that had allegedly been stolen from a field in Laurel County.
Deputies recovered 102 pounds of Hemp.
John Schell was charged with:
- Receiving stolen property under $10,000
- Criminal trespassing – third-degree
- Possession of Marijuana
- Trafficking in Marijuana first offense
In addition this subject was charged on a Laurel Circuit Court indictment warrant of arrest charging:
- Robbery first-degree; assault – second-degree
- Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – motor vehicle
- Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
- Persistent felony offender
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
