BOWLING GREEN, KY (June 22, 2025) – Just before 6:00 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 3 received a call about a possible injury collision. Troopers went enroute to Interstate 65 at the 30-mile marker.
Before Troopers arrived on the scene, Post 3 received another call indicating that Christian Ryan Smith, 22, of Flossmoor, Illinois, was involved in the collision and had carjacked a black Subaru Forester, fleeing the scene. Smith was later spotted traveling north on U.S. 31-W, where Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Smith continued on US 31-W until he was finally stopped on the northbound on-ramp to Interstate 65 in Park City. He was taken into custody and lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.
Christian Smith faces the following charges:
- Speeding (20 MPH over the speed limit)
- Reckless Driving- Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (motor vehicle)
- Leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance
- Carjacking (attempt)
- TBUT (over $10,000 but less than $1,000,000)
- Two counts of Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree
- Resisting Arrest
- DUI
- Assault, 4th Degree
