FRANKFORT, KY. (Wednesday, October 9, 2019) –Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball has returned more unclaimed property than any State Treasurer in Kentucky history in a four year term, her office announced today.

Since taking office, she’s returned over $84 Million in unclaimed property.
“Returning people’s property back to them is a priority of mine as Treasurer,” Treasurer Ball said. “I am proud to have returned a historic amount of unclaimed property because every dollar returned is money back in the pocket of its rightful owner.”
Since taking office, Treasurer Ball has revamped unclaimed property processes at the Treasury to help increase the amount of property returned to Kentuckians. These advancements include the modernization of unclaimed property laws that had not been updated in decades and the creation of an online reporting tool for businesses holding unclaimed property. These changes have made claiming and reporting property easier for individuals and businesses.
The Kentucky State Treasurer administers Kentucky’s Unclaimed Property Fund. Unclaimed property generally consists of payroll checks, unclaimed safety deposit boxes, old life insurance policies, stocks, and more that have remained unclaimed by their owners after several years. The Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division works diligently to reunite these items with their owners, or in cases where the owner is deceased, the owner’s family.
