LONDON, KY (January 10, 2020) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Gary Mehler along with Deputy Travis Napier arrested two individuals on Thursday night January 9, 2020 at approximately 8:30 PM.
The arrests occurred after Deputy Mehler conducted a traffic stop on a black colored Nissan Altima at the junction of KY 229 and KY 1023 approximately 8 miles South of London.
During the traffic stop it was learned that the driver was operating on a DUI suspended license.
When the driver exited the vehicle, Deputy Mehler observed two capped hypodermic needles on the seat.
Deputy Mehler's K-9 "Edge" did a walk around the vehicle and alerted on the vehicle. As a result, deputies located Methamphetamine, and an additional hypodermic needle.
A passenger in the vehicle was found in possession of Marijuana, a glass meth pipe and a snorting straw and had outstanding warrants of arrest.
The two arrested individuals were identified as:
Major J. Marcum age 32 of Old State Rd., Lily charged with:
- Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Driving on a DUI suspended license – first offense
Kayla Gene Hensley age 30 of Cane Creek Rd., London charged with:
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of Marijuana.
In addition, this subject was charged on a Knox District Court bench warrant of arrest charging:
- Failure to appear in court on charges of operating on suspended or revoked operator's license
- Failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense
- No registration plates
- Improper registration plate
These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
