FRANKFORT, Ky. – Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced on Thursday, January 23, 2020 that an investigation by the Cyber Crimes Unit within the Office of the Attorney General has led to the arrest of LaVance Rondell Anderson, 28, of Bowling Green.
The arrest occurred in Warren County with the assistance of the United States Secret Service, the Bowling Green Police Department, and the Louisville Metro Police Department.
LaVance Rondell Anderson was charged with:
- One count of prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor or peace officer for a sex offense, a Class D felony
“Our Cyber Crimes Unit is committed to partnering with local, state, and federal law enforcement to track down cyber criminals who target our children,” said Attorney General Cameron (left). “I am grateful to our hardworking investigators and law enforcement for diligently working on this case.”
The investigation into Anderson’s activities was initiated after he contacted an undercover detective posing as a minor online. After being advised of their age, Anderson requested details about the person’s sexual history and requested to engage in sex acts. He also sent sexual images of himself and requested to receive images in return of the supposed minor.
Anderson, who is a teacher assistant for the Bowling Green Independent School District, was taken into custody at his place of employment. Upon arrest, he admitted to communicating with a person he believed to be a minor about sex acts and to sending sexually explicit images to that person over the Internet.
The Office of the Attorney General Cyber Crimes Unit routinely uses advanced techniques to locate and apprehend suspects that otherwise operate in the shadows of the Internet.
As of this time, a bond decision has not been made. This case will be prosecuted by Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Cohron.
