HYDEN, KY - The Leslie County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that: On Wednesday, October 21, 2020 Deputy Shane Wilson and Special Deputy Bobby Roberts conducted a traffic stop at an approved safety checkpoint location.
Eric Lowe of Hyden was operating a red GMC truck and deputies were aware that Lowe had an active warrant, they asked Lowe to pull off to the side, as they approached the truck deputies saw a 7mm rifle in the passenger side of the truck where David Hoskins of Hyden was sitting.
Deputy Wilson was aware that Hoskins was a convicted felon so both were asked to step outside of the vehicle.
Hoskins was unsteady on his feet and a white residue was on his nose. Hoskins told Deputy Wilson he had used drugs, he failed a field sobriety test. Lowe also failed a field sobriety test.
Upon search of the truck deputies located a prescription bottle labeled for neither subject containing 8 1/2 Xanax tablets and $1500 cash.
Deputy Wilson noticed a strong odor of Marijuana coming from the truck and when we lifted the bed cover a black shoe box was in plain sight containing a large amount of Marijuana. Under a tarp Deputy Wilson located another large clear tote of Marijuana totaling 4.86 pounds and a glass pipe.
Arrested was:
David Hoskins, 57 was charged with:
- Public Intoxication of Controlled Substance
- Possession of Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree
- Trafficking in Marijuana (8oz-5lb)
- Drug paraphernalia
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Eric Lowe, 34 was charged with:
- Possession of Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree
- Trafficking in Marijuana (8oz-5lb)
- Drug paraphernalia
Lowe has other charges under the care of KSP, the charges listed here are only related to the LCSO case.
Both subjects were placed under arrest and are lodged at the Leslie County Detention Center.
