Officers Locate a Convicted Felon with Large Amount of Meth, Heroin & Cash Passed Out in Southeast Kentucky

LONDON, KY (February 6, 2021) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's shift Sgt. Brett Reeves and KSP/CVE officer Steve Douglas received a complaint of a male subject passed out in a vehicle in a restaurant parking lot in southern Laurel County on Friday afternoon February 5, 2021 at approximately 4:16 PM.

SeizedUpon arrival at the scene, Sgt. Reeves and KSP/CVE Officer Steve Douglas located the subject passed out and upon awakening him conducted an investigation determining that he was under the influence.

As the officers continued the investigation, a firearm was located in the vehicle and it was learned that the vehicle occupant was a convicted felon out of Ohio.

In addition, Officers found:

  • Over 42 grams of Heroin
  • 279 grams of Methamphetamine
  • Two handguns
  • One rifle
  • Digital scales
  • Other drug paraphernalia
  • A large sum of US currency

The occupant in the vehicle was identified as Michael Lee Stephens age 42 of Scrub Grass Road, Danville, KY.

Michael Lee Stephens was charged with:

  • Trafficking in a Controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Trafficking in a Controlled substance – first offense – Heroin
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia

This subject was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Sheriff's investigators assisting on the investigation included: shift Sgt. Brett Reeves, Lieut. Chris Edwards, Detective James Sizemore who is the case officer, Detective Robert Reed, Bailiff Roy Ball. Also assisting was KSP/CVE Officer Steve Douglas.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root (left) stated that drug arrests will continue in Laurel County.
