Fatal Collision Involving Multiple Vehicles in Knox County, Kentucky

BARBOURVILLE,  KY – On May 9, 2021 at 4:01 P.M. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call of an injury collision involving multiple vehicles on South 11 in Knox County. Troopers from Post 10 responded to the collision and began an investigation.

Initial investigation indicates a 2006 gold Pontic G6 operated by Tommy Golden was traveling north when his vehicle hydroplaned causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

The vehicle then crossed the center line and entering into the southbound lane of travel.

The Pontic struck a Toyota RAV 4 which was operated by Tonya Thompson (43) of Stoney Fork head on.

Ms. Thompson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knox County Coroner.

Mr. Golden was taken to University of Kentucky Medical Center with life threatening injuries

The passengers in both vehicle were taken to Knox County ARH for treatment.

One of the passengers was later transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center for further treatment.

Collision is under investigation by Det. Jake Middleton.
