Tip Results in Felony Gun and Drug Charges for a Southeastern Kentucky Man

HYDEN, KY (August 13, 2021) - The Leslie County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 Chief Deputy Jeremy Vega arrested Matthew Caldwell, 44 of Stinnett, KY on felony gun and drug charges.

Acting on a tip, Chief Deputy Jeremy Vega, Sheriff Billy Collett, Kentucky Probation & Parole officers Mike Baker and Jack Vance along with Kentucky State Police Troopers Steve Davidson and Josh Collett arrived at Caldwell’s Stinnett residence to investigate the tip.

Once there officers conducted a search of the home and discovered:

  • One AR-15
  • One 12GA shotgun
  • Three .22 long rifles
  • One .22 handgun
  • A bag of ammunition

Officers also discovered:

  • A small plastic bag containing suspected Crystal Methamphetamines, weighing just over 2 grams
  • 8 new bags of syringes
  • Digital scales
  • A large ziplock bag of an undetermined white substance weighing 259 grams which will be sent to the lab for testing

Matthew Caldwell (right) was charged with:

•Possession of handgun by convicted felon.
•Possession of firearm by convicted felon X5
•Trafficking controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (Methamphetamine)
•Drug paraphernalia buy/possess

This individual  was lodged in the Leslie County Detention Center.
