MIDDLESBORO, KY - STATEMENT: The Middlesboro Police Department has received multiple inquiries regarding the recent search warrant and arrests at Happy Smoke, a business located within the city limits of Middlesboro.
We would like to clarify that the Middlesboro Police Department was not involved in this investigation or arrest. We understand that the investigation was led by the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, but we cannot independently confirm the details, as our agency was not included in the planning or execution of the operation. We first became aware of the situation after receiving calls from concerned citizens.
While our department was not involved in this specific case, we want to reaffirm our commitment to addressing illegal drug activity within our community. The Middlesboro Police Department does not condone the illegal sale of marijuana or any other controlled substances.
Our agency continues to prioritize enforcement against the trafficking of fentanyl and methamphetamine, which pose significant risks to public safety. In recent weeks, we have obtained indictments against more than 40 individuals for drug trafficking, the majority involving methamphetamine and fentanyl. Several additional indictments are expected soon.
We take all criminal complaints seriously and remain committed to investigating all reported illegal activity. However, due to the severe impact of fentanyl and methamphetamine in our area, these substances remain our top enforcement priorities.
