BLOOMINGTON, IN - The Monroe County Sheriff's Department is reporting that on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at approximately 3:20 PM, a customer at Walmart called the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to report an armed robbery that had just taken place.
The 25-year-old female victim stated she was inside of the store shopping when she was approached by a female who allegedly asked for money and displayed a knife.
The victim reported the suspect escorted her to the ATM at the front of the store and forced her to withdraw money.
Once deputies arrived store employees accessed surveillance footage from the store and were able to obtain images of the suspect.
A short time later, Deputies located the suspect in the parking lot area near the fuel center, and she was taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Tarea Hutchins of Bloomington, IN.
Tarea Hutchins was arrested for:
- Armed Robbery, a Level 3 felony
- Kidnapping While Armed with a Deadly Weapon, a Level 3 felony
This individual was lodged in the Monroe County Correctional Center.
No injuries were reported from this incident.
