DRY RIDGE, KY (May 19, 2023) –The Kentucky State Police Post 6 Dry Ridge is investigating a fatal collision on AA Highway (KY 9) in Bracken County near Eden Ridge Road. At approximately 9:53 A.M., KSP Post 6 Detective Matthew Purvis was traveling on the AA Highway when he observed a multi-vehicle collision blocking the roadway.
He advised Post 6 to send first responders and began rendering aid to those in the collision. An investigation was conducted, and findings suggest a white 2018 Toyota Corolla was traveling south on the AA Highway when it crossed the center line and struck a red 2021 Ford Explorer head-on.
An additional vehicle, a gray 2023 Kia K5, also sustained damage from the collision, but did not strike the Toyota Corolla or the Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Bracken County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Ford Explorer was transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Kia K5 was uninjured.
The roadway has shut down after the collision occurred. This collision is still under investigation by the Post 6 Collision Reconstruction Team.
Troopers at the scene were assisted by the Bracken County Sheriff’s Office, Bracken County EMS, Bracken County Fire and Rescue, Bracken County State Road Department and the Bracken County Coroner’s Office. The roadway has been reopened.
