FRANKFORT, KY (Feb. 16, 2024) – Attorney General Russell Coleman joined 21 attorneys general calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to reject the Biden Administration’s politicization of the justice system against President Trump.
The attorneys general argued that President Trump has a right to due process, just like everyone else in the American legal system.
“The unnecessary speed at which the Special Counsel is pushing this case has nothing to do with the law—only politics,” said Attorney General Coleman. “Our system of justice demands that the law apply fairly to everyone, and I encourage the Supreme Court to uphold that fundamental American principle in this case.”
The Biden Administration’s Special Counsel is asking the Supreme Court to fast-track a criminal prosecution against a leading political candidate of the opposite party ahead of the 2024 election. In the brief, the attorneys general quote public reporting that “President Biden ‘confided to his inner circle that he believed former President Donald J. Trump was a threat to democracy and should be prosecuted.’”
The amicus brief was led by Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. Attorney General Coleman was joined by attorneys general from Alaska, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.
