CRASH SCENE AT AT KY-1006 AND KY-363

PURSUIT, CRASH, HEROIN POSSESSION AND DUI ARREST AT KY-1006 AND KY-363 AFTER POSSIBLE KIDNAPPING REPORT IN LONDON, KENTUCKY

LONDON, KY - The London Police Department (LPD) is reporting that on Monday, February 26, 2024 at approximately 8:09 AM, LPD Officer Hobie Daugherty arrested Dustin J. Bewley, age 30 of Keavy, KY.

London PD logo 200London PD Officers received a report from London-Laurel 911 Center of a possible kidnapping in progress that had come into the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.

Officer Daugherty, along with other officers, were able to get behind the vehicle in question and attempted to perform a traffic stop.

Upon doing so, the operator, later identified as Dustin J. Bewley of Keavy, KY began to flee from Officer Daugherty and after a short chase, Bewley attempted to go through the grassy area at the roundabout at KY-1006 and KY-363, where he struck a guide wire for a utility pole and overturned the vehicle.

Bewley, who appeared manifestly under the influence was taken into custody after a brief struggle. The alleged kidnapping victim was checked on and transported to St. Joseph Hospital for possible minor injuries resulting from an earlier incident.

Dustin Bewley was charged with:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle U/Influence of Alcohol/Substance 3rd Degree (Aggravating Circumstances)
  • Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
  • Possession of Controlled Substances 1st Degree 1st Offense (Heroin)
  • Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree - Drug Unspecified
  • Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree and numerous other charges

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Officer Daugherty was assisted on scene by Chief Chuck Johnson, Asst. Chief Bobby Day, Sgt. Elbert Riley, K9 Officer Dylan Messer and Officer Andrew Lawson.

Members of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County also assisted on scene.

At this time, an investigation is still ongoing and further charges may be filed by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office at a later date.
