LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Skyler McFarland along with Deputy Joe Breeding arrested two individuals on West Cumberland Gap Pkwy. approximately 10 miles South of London after being dispatched to an apparent single vehicle collision in front of a business in the construction zone there.
Upon arrival at the scene deputies noted observing a white Toyota Camry halfway on the roadway and its front bumper pressed up against a construction cone.
Deputies also noted observing a male subject in the driver seat of the vehicle who was unconscious with shallow breathing. Deputies attempted to awaken the driver but were unable and believing a possible drug overdose, deputies administered Narcan and conducted a sternum rub finally awakening the driver.
Deputies noted that a female subject was in the passenger seat and a nine month old baby boy in a rear facing car seat.
Through investigation deputies determined that the driver was under the influence and had previously been convicted of DUI – drugs.
In addition, the driver stated he had taken Xanax and snorted heroin before driving the vehicle.
Social services was summoned to the scene to take custody of the nine month old child.
The two arrested individuals were identified as: The driver Jordan Taylor, age 23 of Felts School Rd., Corbin, KY and the passenger Kaylee Martin, age 19 of Carter St., Corbin, KY.
Jordan Taylor was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance – second offense
- Two counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree
- Endangering the welfare of a minor
Kaylee Martin was charged with:
- Public intoxication – controlled substances
These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
