LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Reed along with Deputy Matt Walker arrested Charles Bond age 60 of Knoxville, Tennessee on Friday afternoon July 5, 2024 at approximately 4:59 PM.
The arrest occurred in a business parking lot off U.S. 25 approximately 6 1/2 miles South of London after deputies responded to a vehicle fire.
When deputies arrived at the scene they noted observing a gold colored Ford Expedition on fire. Lily Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.
Afterwards deputies noted that the VIN plate had been removed from the vehicle. Deputies attempted to investigate the driver who refused to identify himself numerous times.
Upon arrest, the driver took a confrontational stance and after briefly struggling with deputies was taken into custody and identified himself as a police officer several times, however deputies determined that this was fictitious.
The driver was identified as Charles Bond age 60 of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Charles Bond was charged with:
- Destruction of a VIN number
- Menacing; disorderly conduct – second-degree
- Resisting arrest
- Obstructing and interfering with an officer
- Operating a vehicle with expired operator's license
- Failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense
- Assault – third-degree – police officer is victim
- Impersonating a peace officer
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
