LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Zach Allen arrested William Barnes, age 44, of County Farm Rd., London on Wednesday evening August 14, 2024 at approximately 5:36 PM.
The arrest occurred off KY 312 approximately 10 miles South of London following an attempted traffic stop initiated by Deputy Allen on a white colored Pontiac Grand Prix whose driver failed to signal a turn at Blossom Ridge Road.
As Deputy Allen attempted to conduct the traffic stop, the driver turned his vehicle around and fled at a high rate of speed attempting to flee. Deputy Allen lost sight of the vehicle on KY 312. However citizens, in the area flagged Deputy Allen down advising him the vehicle had pulled behind a residence.
Deputy Allen located the suspect vehicle behind the residence in question and upon knocking on the door found out from occupants that the suspect was in the residence. As other deputies arrived at the scene and surrounded the house, a search of the residence was conducted and the suspect was located hiding under a bed in a back bedroom.
The subject stated that he fled because he knew he had an outstanding parole violation warrant.
William Barnes was charged with:
- Failure to signal
- Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle
In addition, the subject was charged on a Kentucky parole board parole violation warrant charging:
- Absconding parole supervision
- Failure to complete treatment for substance abuse
- Failure to report to parole officer as directed regarding a conviction in Davies County, Hopkins County, Lyon County, Muhlenberg County Circuit Courts on charges of:
1. Manufacturing methamphetamine – first offense complicity
2. Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – narcotics complicity
3. Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – second offense – methamphetamine
4. Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – second offense – methamphetamine
5. Criminal possession of a forged instrument – second-degree
6. Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
