Fatal Wrong Way Collision on Interstate 69 in Webster County, Kentucky

SLAUGHTERS, KY (April 12, 2025) – At approximately 12:38 p.m. (CT), Kentucky State Police (KSP) post 2 was contacted by Webster County dispatch requesting we investigate a three-vehicle fatal collision at the 128-mile marker on Interstate 69.

The preliminary investigation revealed that William J. Holmes, 61, of Madisonville KY, was operating a 2020 Ford Ranger traveling northbound in the southbound lanes. Elizabeth Duporte-Hobson, of Palm Coast, FL, was operating a 2026 Freightliner CMV traveling southbound on I-69. Robyn L. Crain, of Dover TN, was operating a 2018 Nissan Rogue also traveling southbound on I-69.

William Holmes struck the Freightliner in a head-on manner. After the initial impact, the Ford Ranger had a secondary collision with the Nissan Rogue.

William Holmes was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Webster County Coroner. Elizabeth Duporte-Hobson was transported VIA ambulance for minor injuries. Robyn Crain was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing by Accident Reconstructionist Patrick Penrod.
