ARRESTS: KSP Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Madison County, KY

BEREA, KY (April 29, 2025) – Earlier this morning just before 6:30 a.m., Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 7 Richmond was contacted by Berea Police Department (BPD) to investigate an officer-involved shooting.

The initial investigation indicates that BPD responded to Walmart in Berea to investigate a stolen vehicle. When officers attempted to make contact with the driver, he placed the car in reverse and struck an officer, pinning him between two vehicles. The officer discharged his service weapon into the vehicle. One officer and two of the suspects were transported to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

There is no active threat to the community, and all involved are in custody. KSP Post 7 is continuing the investigation.

The Walmart in Berea is open, but customers are being asked to allow space for troopers to safely conduct their investigation at the scene.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts have been gathered. Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
