(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Regardless of where I-95 drivers are headed this Saturday, they can expect to see state police traffic enforcement efforts underway from Maine to Florida as part of the cooperative ‘Drive to Save Lives’ campaign.
On May 17, 2014, Maryland State Police installations along I-95 will be participating in a multi-jurisdictional traffic enforcement effort. Each state police agency from Maine to Florida will participate in this initiative between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Patrols will give special attention to aggressive and distracted driving, speeding, as well as those not properly using safety restraints. This is part of the continuing Maryland State Police effort in support of the “Move Toward Zero Deaths” campaign, in cooperation with the Maryland Highway Safety Office.
Colonel Marcus L. Brown, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police, has ordered a variety of enforcement techniques to be used during the operation along with additional patrol personnel. The traffic laws of this state will be strictly enforced.
“This is just one of the many initiatives troopers will be conducting in the upcoming months,” said Colonel Brown. “The Maryland State Police is proud to be a part of this operation, where the ultimate goal is to save lives.”
The 14 other agencies participating in this initiative are: Connecticut State Police, Delaware State Police, Florida Highway Patrol, Georgia State Patrol, Maine State Police, Massachusetts State Police, New Hampshire State Police, New Jersey State Police, New York State Police, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Pennsylvania State Police, Rhode Island State Police, South Carolina State Police, and Virginia State Police.
