(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Troopers along I-95 stopped hundreds of vehicles during ‘Operation Blitz’ in cooperation with the Maine to Florida traffic initiative ‘Drive to Save Lives’ on Saturday.
On May 17, 2014, Maryland State Police installations along I-95 participated in a multi-jurisdictional traffic enforcement effort. Troopers, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., made over 300 traffic stops. The stops resulted in 273 citations and 145 warnings being issued. The violations included improper cell phone use, failing to obey the move over law, following too closely, unsafe lane changing, aggressive driving as well as speeding. Along with traffic enforcement, troopers made two drug arrests and four warrant arrests.
This state police operation represents ongoing support of the “Move Toward Zero Deaths” campaign, in cooperation with the Maryland Highway Safety Office. Troopers will be conducting additional initiatives throughout the upcoming months.
State police agencies from Maine to Florida participated in the initiative. The 14 other agencies were: Connecticut State Police, Delaware State Police, Florida Highway Patrol, Georgia State Patrol, Maine State Police, Massachusetts State Police, New Hampshire State Police, New Jersey State Police, New York State Police, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Pennsylvania State Police, Rhode Island State Police, South Carolina State Police, and Virginia State Police.
