FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is offering free activities for children ages 5 to 10 and their caregivers this summer at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, Old State Capitol and State Arsenal in Frankfort. Admission to the activities is independent of visiting a KHS museum, for which regular KHS admission applies.
Each Family Fun Saturday activity is scheduled to take place between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. EDT and is designed to put participants in touch with the past in a hands-on way. Participants can come and go any time within that timeframe.
Here’s the schedule:
- From Pen to Paper, June 14, 21 and 28
Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, 100 W. Broadway
Learn to write with a quill pen and find out how your ancestors made paper and ink.
- Big Dig Detectives, July 5 and 12
Old State Capitol, 300 W. Broadway
Dig in dirt and help uncover the Old State Capitol’s history in a simulated archaeological dig.
- Civil War Workers, July 19 and 26
State Arsenal, 125 W. Main St.
Make replica Civil War ammunition and learn what it was like to work at the State Arsenal.
