Obituary for Ruby Lois Hibbard

Mrs. Ruby Lois Hibbard, age 94 passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. She was born on Thursday, September 4, 1930 in Hima, Kentucky to the union of Gilbert “Bice” and Thelma Hibbard Gregory.

She was the 3rd of 7 children and is preceded in death by her parents: Gilbert “Bice” and Thelma Gregory, her husband: Carl Hibbard, her daughter: Margaret Joan Hibbard and her siblings: Ray Gregory, Ralph Gregory, Bonnie Sue Hacker and Lola Woods.

Ruby was a retired school teacher for the Clay County Board of Education, she was also a member for over 80 years and former Sunday School Teacher at the Horse Creek Baptist Church as well as pianist for over 70 years. Mrs. Ruby dedicated her life and talents to serving God and impacted the lives of numerous children, people and families. She ensured that all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives were immersed in music and she never tired of listening to them play. During her final days, she found peace and comfort in listening to them play and sing at her piano. She left a musical ministry that will continue to flourish throughout generations present and to come.

She leaves to celebrate her life her daughters: Marilyn Hacker and her husband Billy and Denva Smith and her husband Larry “Red”, her grandchildren: Carla Lewis, Billy Ryan Hacker, Brice Smith and his wife his wife Abbey and Bailey Smith as well as her great grandchildren: Cameron Lewis, Corey Lewis and James Ryan Hacker. Also surviving are her beloved siblings: Phyllis Crawford and Russell Gregory and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Ruby Lois, Mammy Ruby, Aunt Ruby and Sister Ruby always had a passionate love for God and family and loved spending time with her “Gregory Family” as much as she could.

 Mrs. Ruby was an encourager, prayer warrior, teacher, friend and more, but most of all she was a servant of God and light to any and all who were blessed to know and love her. 

One of her favorite scriptures is Romans 8:28 KJV“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

 Funeral Services for Mrs. Ruby Lois Hibbard will be conducted on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 2 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Aaron Thompson, Rev. Scottie Sumner and Rev. John T. “Boo” Smith will be presiding. Burial will follow in the Hibbard Cemetery in the Sidell Community.

 The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday after 11 AM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.

 Arrangements are entrusted to the Rominger Funeral Home.
