Phil C. Collins, 88, was born January 6th, 1926, and passed away Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 at his residence in Burning Springs.He was a former coal miner and retired farmer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he served until he was injured and honorably discharged.
He was very proud to serve his country. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and served as the 5th district Commander for 2 years and the local commander for Clay County Chapter 137 for 12 years. He was elected as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Martha Layne Collins. His faith was Pentecostal Holiness. He and his wife Anna Lee served the Lord together for 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Lee Collins of 38 years and 9 months, and the following children: Mary Courtney of Nicholasville, Kirby Collins of Nicholasville, Ann Burus of Garrard Co., Jimmy Collins and wife Lora of Nicholasville, Robert Collins of Nicholasville, Michael Collins of Lexington, Stanley Collins and wife Jamie of Nicholasville, Bonnie Ball and husband Chris of Manchester, and the following step-children, Roger Bowling and wife Janet of Manchester, Gene Bowling and wife Sue of Manchester, Jennings Bowling and wife Roxy of Manchester, Howard Bowling and wife Margaret of Oneida, Darrell Bowling and wife Michelle of Oneida.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Collins, his father, Granville Collins, two sons, Phil Collins Jr. and Alvin Collins, his sisters, Alice Combs, Polly Ann Grubb, Mary Mullins, Addie Reister, and Artemus Slavens, and one brother, Stephen Collins.
He is survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly. He made his home in Burning Springs for 36 years.
Funeral services for Phil C. Collins will be held 1 PM Friday, September 26th, 2014 at the Britton Funeral Home chapel with Archie Henson, Paul Stewart, and Troy Hubbard. Burial will follow in the Manchester Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held after 6PM Thursday, September 25th, 2014 at the Britton Funeral Home.
