Mr. William Shelby Nicholson, Jr., age 88 of Fogertown, departed this life on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky.
He was born on Friday, November 27, 1925 in Clay County, Kentucky to the union of William Shelby and Ruthie Lewis Nicholson. He was a farmer and worked as a boss in a tobacco warehouse for over 25 years in Lexington. He was also owner and operator of a greenhouse, was instrumental in developing a tobacco bailing process in Clay County while making sure fellow farmers were successful, a great historian and story teller that told many stories that were handed down to his children. He was also affiliated with the Potter’s Chapel Church and was an elder there, it is now known as the Bethany Pentecostal Church.
He leaves to celebrate his life his loving children: Dee Nicholson and his wife Bonnie of Lexington, Aubrey Nicholson and his wife Mary of Fogertown, Paul Nicholson and his wife Linda of London, Vanda Rice and her husband Roy of Fogertown, Jan Nicholson and his wife Teena of Fogertown and Les Nicholson and his wife Vickie of Fogertown. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Shelby and Ruthie Nicholson, his wife of 48 years: Dorothy, and these siblings: Pearl Nicholson, Cy Nicholson, Woodrow Nicholson, Leah Murray, and Sylvia Nicholson.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Hospice of the Bluegrass.
Funeral Services for Mr. William Shelby Nicholson, Jr. will be conducted on Sunday, November 16 at 3 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John “Boo” Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Nicholson Cemetery in the Fogertown Community.
Visitation will be held on Sunday after 1 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.
