FRANKFORT, KY — On Thursday, February 4, 2021, the Kentucky Smart on Crime Coalition released the following statement after the Kentucky Senate Judiciary Committee advanced SB 84, dubbed “Dignity Bill Part 2” and sponsored by Senator Julie Raque Adams.  The legislation is aimed at providing pregnant women in incarceration the necessary resources for a safe and health pregnancy.

Knox County, Kentucky Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Armed Methamphetamine Trafficking

LONDON, KY — A Corbin, KY, man, John Helton, was sentenced to 264 months or 22 years in federal prison on Tuesday, by U.S. District Judge Claria Horn Boom, after previously being convicted of armed methamphetamine trafficking and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The General Assembly has an opportunity in this legislative session to invest in the capacity of our teachers to improve student success in third grade reading and mathematics. House Bill 271, along with a $1 million appropriation in the budget, would create the Kentucky Early Entry Initiative, a partnership with the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards and a proven way to strengthening teaching and learning for Kentucky’s young students.
