Death Investigation by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office


Laurel Counry, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Detective Kyle Gray along with Detective Kevin Berry and Deputy Daniel Grigsby are conducting a death investigation regarding the discovery of a deceased individual found off West Cumberland Gap Pkwy. near the intersection of I–75 in a pickup truck in a wooded area approximately 1/2 mile off the roadway on Sunday night December 4, 2016 at approximately 10:11 PM.

Deputies were called to the scene after a rabbit hunter noticed a vehicle parked in that location that matched the description of a vehicle that authorities had been searching for regarding a missing Williamsburg man. That individual had been reported as missing around Thanksgiving and was being investigated by Whitley County Sheriff's Deputy James Fox.

The deceased individual has been identified as Gary Patrick age 29 Williamsburg. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy was conducted in Frankfort on Monday morning December 5, 2016 in an attempt to determine cause of death.

Cause of death has not yet been determined.

The Laurel County coroner's office is assisting on the investigation. A death investigation continues by the Laurel County Sheriff's office.
