“One of my favorite things to do as Treasurer is return people’s money to them,” Treasurer Ball said. “Since taking office, I have returned a record amount of unclaimed property and I believe this local partnership will help maximize efforts to return even more unclaimed property to Kentuckians.”
During her meeting with Judge Johnson, Treasurer Ball delivered a list including the names of Clay Countians who have unclaimed property valuing over $500 waiting to be claimed. Judge Johnson will then utilize the list to help individuals get connected with the Treasurer’s Office to claim their property. Individuals can also search for unclaimed property at www.treasury.ky.gov or direct any questions about unclaimed property to the Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division at 1-800-465-4722.
Since taking office, Treasurer Ball has returned more unclaimed property in a three year period than any Treasurer in Kentucky history. To date, she has returned more than $80 Million in unclaimed property to Kentuckians.
The Kentucky State Treasurer administers Kentucky’s Unclaimed Property Fund. Unclaimed property generally consists of payroll checks, unclaimed safety deposit boxes, old life insurance policies, stocks, and more that have remained unclaimed by their owners after several years. The Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division works diligently to reunite these items with their owners, or in cases where the owner is deceased, the owner’s family.
