Bowling Green, Ky. (February 27, 2020) - On February 21, 2020, the Labor Cabinet filed a civil enforcement action in Warren Circuit Court against Shawn Floyd of Indianapolis, Indiana for violations of Kentucky's child labor laws.
Mr. Floyd employed twelve minors, seven of which were minors under the age of fourteen, during the month of July 2019 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The minors, some as young as twelve years old, were working days as long as twelve hours, with minimal breaks or access to food and water.
"The Kentucky Labor Cabinet takes all violations of the Commonwealth's child labor laws seriously, and intends to vigorously enforce violations we find," said Secretary Larry L. Roberts. "The violations in the Floyd complaint are particularly egregious, and we intend to pursue the complaint with all of the resources at our disposal."
Shawn Floyd has also been charged with:
- 12 counts of human trafficking by the Warren Commonwealth's Attorney related to the July 2019 incident.
The Labor Cabinet served Mr. Floyd with its complaint during his arraignment on the human trafficking charges on February 24, 2020.
The Labor Cabinet is responsible for civil enforcement of the Commonwealth's Wage and Hour Laws, including Child Labor Laws.
