Failure to wear Seatbelt leads to Meth Trafficking Arrest with Seizure of Drugs and Cash off KY Highway 66

ARJAY, KY - The Bell County Sheriff's Department is reporting that:  On Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at approximately 7:41 PM while on routine patrol on Highway 66, Bell County K-9 Deputy Adam Southern observed the driver of a 1999 white/gray Toyota pickup truck not wearing a seatbelt.

JIMMY COLLETTAfter a traffic stop was initiated, Deputy Southern made contact with the driver, 66-year-old Jimmy Collett (left) of Arjay, who was seen trying to hide or grab an object under the driver’s seat. Collett was then asked to exit the vehicle for a safety pat-down.

K-9 Chan was then deployed and alerted to the presence of drugs on the exterior of the driver’s side of the truck.

Deputy Southern then conducted a search of the vehicle which yielded a large bag containing (6) six other large bags of a crystal-like substance believed to be Methamphetamine with a total weight of 191 grams and a street value of $20,000.

Also found were:

  • Several small bags of the same crystal-like substance which were individually packaged for sale
  • A blue Valium pill
  • A white Hydrocodone
  • A glass pipe with residue
  • $919 in cash

Jimmy Collett was then arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – 1st degree, 2nd or greater offense (greater than 2 grams – Methamphetamine)
  • Ttrafficking in a controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense – (drug unspecified)
  • Buying/possessing drug paraphernalia
  • Failure to wear a seatbelt
