UPDATE: Missing Person Ralph Sawyer Located in Clackamas County, Oregon

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR — The search and rescue mission to locate missing mountain biker Ralph Sawyer is over. Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Ralph Sawyer was located safely.

It was reported to the Sheriff’s Office that he found his car on East Still Creek Road and drove it back to his home in Gresham. Mr. Sawyer showed up to a neighbor’s house tired, cold, dirty, and worn out. Gresham Police confirmed it was him and he was transported to a local hospital to be checked out.

A search and rescue mission to locate Mr. Sawyer in the Mount Hood National Forest has been underway since late Friday night. He was reported missing by his family after not returning from a planned mountain biking trip.

Yesterday’s search efforts included teams from Clackamas County Search and Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Hood River Crag Rats, Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit. Today’s search efforts had been continuing and included the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Posse and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Posse.
