Paris Man Found Guilty of Multiple Child Pornography Charges, Given 11-year Sentence

Frankfort KY. – Attorney General Andy Beshear on Thursday announced that a Paris man has been found guilty in Bourbon Circuit Court of multiple charges of child pornography, receiving an 11-year sentence.

Matthew Tipton, 26, of Paris, was found guilty Dec. 14, of 20 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

He was indicted by a Bourbon County Grand Jury in September 2015.

Following execution of a search warrant at the home of Tipton in 2015, the Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes Unit seized multiple computers and external hard drives containing child pornography. They were able to uncover more than 2,000 images and 150 videos depicting child pornography stored on those devices.

The work of the Cyber Crimes Unit, a Division of the Department of Criminal Investigations in the Office of the Attorney General, is part of Beshear’s core mission to keep sexual predators away from Kentucky’s families and children.

Beshear’s Office of Special Prosecutions prosecuted the case.

“I would like to thank my prosecutors for their hard work on this case,” Beshear said. “I have made it a core mission of my office to protect Kentucky children from sexual abuse and exploitation – and we are working every day to ensure they are shielded from online predators.”

The office’s work to prevent child abuse in 2016 led to the arrest of more online child predators than any year in the history of the office. The number of arrests, indictments and convictions total nearly 80.

Tipton, who must register as a sex offender, will be sentenced at 11 a.m. on Jan. 13.
