Church burglarized in Laurel County

LONDON, KY (November 17, 2019) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Taylor McDaniel along with Deputy Charlie Johnson and Deputy Joey Robinson arrested two individuals on Saturday afternoon November 16, 2019 at approximately 1:39 PM.

The arrests occurred off US 25 approximately 8 miles north of London following an investigation conducted by the Sheriff's office regarding the burglary of Hazel Patch Church.

Deputies utilized video surveillance obtained to identify and locate the two suspects. In addition, the two individuals caused over $1000 damage to the doors of the property during the burglary.

The two individuals were identified as:

Leonard Jones age 54 of North Laurel Rd., East Bernstadt charged with:

  • Burglary – third-degree
  • Criminal mischief – first-degree
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

This individual was found in possession of a firearm and hypodermic needles during his arrest.

Vernon Wilson age 51 of North Laurel Rd., East Bernstadt charged with:

  • Burglary – third-degree
  • Criminal mischief – first-degree

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
