LONDON, KY (January 4, 2020) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: On Friday, January 3, 2020 the charges on Douglas Earl Bailey age 44 of East Bernstadt were upgraded from Assault – 1st degree to Murder.
The charges were upgraded following a preliminary hearing held in Laurel District Court regarding a shooting which occurred on Old KY 30 approximately 5 miles north of London early Sunday morning December 22, 2019.
Allegedly, Michael Bailey age 28 of East Bernstadt was shot with a pistol in the chest area and was flown to UK Hospital Lexington where he was pronounced deceased later.
Douglas Earl Bailey along with three others were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center on various charges Laurel Sheriff's Detective Kyle Gray along with Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards, and Deputy Tommy Houston, Deputy Josh Morgan and Deputy Joey Robinson investigated.
This case is expected to be presented to the January term of the Laurel County Grand Jury.
