Fatal Collision on Bee Creek Road (Highway 1193) in Whitley County, Kentucky

CORBIN, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is reporting that at 7:35 AM, Tuesday, February 13, 2024, KSP Post 11,London was notified by Whitley County 911 of an injury accident involving two vehicles on Bee Creek Road (KY 1193) in Whitley County.

The collision resulted in one juvenile and one adult being fatally injured.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 GMC Acadia, operated by Stephanie N. Smith, 33 years old of Corbin, KY, was traveling southbound and crossed the center and struck a 2012 Lexus passenger car operated by Diana L. Alsip, 67 years old of Corbin, KY.

A juvenile passenger in the GMC suffered severe injuries and was transported by Whitley County EMS to Baptist Regional Medical Center. He was later flown by Air Evac to University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital but had to divert to St. Joseph London Hospital due to his injuries and condition. He was pronounced deceased by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office at 09:48 am.

A second juvenile in the vehicle was transported to Baptist Regional Medical Center and later released. The operator was also treated and released.

The operator of the Lexus, Diana Alsip was flown by Air Evac to the University of Tennessee Hospital with severe injuries. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Knox County Coroner’s Office at 10:21 am. Her juvenile passenger was transported by Whitley County EMS to Baptist Regional Medical Center, then later air lifted by PHI to the University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital with non-life threating injuries.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 11 Trooper Shane Bowling. 

He was assisted at the scene by Post 11 personnel, Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Corbin Fire Department, Oak Grove Fire Department, Whitley County EMS, Corbin Police Department, Whitley County Sheriff’s office, PHI, and Air Evac.
